I think in pictures, and my own graphic illustration style has evolved throughout my design career. On some occasions it is the correct solution for one my own design projects and in recent years I have been commissioned by clients to create illustrations to fit their brief.

Isle of Arran Distillery
I was commissioned to compose and illustrate three scenes for the Isle of Arran Distillery ‘Explorers Series’. The final illustrations are used on the bottle label, outer tin and metal relief panel, and in marketing both online and in print.

Sky Studios / Off piste Pictures
I was commissioned to work with the talented team at Sky Studios to create a range of illustrations for “Steve McQueen: The Lost Movie”. David Letterman narrates this film alongside never before seen archive footage. The illustrations were combined with the words of the key characters to bring to life pivotal scenes of the story.

The Dominion
This illustration was created to celebrate the 80th anniversary of one of my favourite buildings in Edinburgh. The building was designed by Thomas Bowhill Gibson in the stunning Art Deco style, and opened for business in January 1938. The Dominion Cinema is Edinburgh’s only family-run, independent cinema, and offers something a bit special.

Signal
Whilst working at my former position at Tayburn, I designed and illustrated the Annual Report for non-profit, mutual organisation, Signal, from 2013-2016. Taking inspiration from a wide range of archive photography, and using a stripped back palette of colours, this graphic illustration style enabled us to create a coherent set of images to illustrate the key messages from each part of the business.

Signal Annual Report covers

Illustration of man spraying the side of a boat
Illustration of men in a forklift truck
Illustration of men tying a rope
